    Brothers
I was talking with Anny the other day, and I realized I can not remember any of my brothers being brought home from the hospital. Is that strange? It's one thing for Bryan (I was a little over three years old when he came home), but I was a little over six years old when Patrick was born and seven and a half years when Matthew was born.

Very interesting, to say the least.

    Crikey!
Steve Irwin, the hugely popular Australian television personality and conservationist known as the "Crocodile Hunter," was killed Monday by a stingray while filming off the Great Barrier Reef. He was 44.

What a strange day so far
What an odd day thus far.

I woke up and people were driving the wrong way down the one way street by me. Turns out they are doing construction and forgot to block off the road. People who use that street as a shortcut to Route 3 were then forced to reverse down the street. I called the police on this but the officer told me they would send someone out "as soon as they could". Odd, I thought, until I got to Shop Rite. There were 8 police cars and the Bergen County bomb squad truck there. Turns out someone left a briefcase unattended in the parking lot, and three kids called the police. I think that, at least, speaks to the education of today's youth. As a young kid, I probably would have opened it.

By the time I was done shopping, the police were just about gone. When I got home, two police cars came down the street near me the wrong way, and then I saw someone trudging up the street carrying a "Road Closed" sign. I guess they didn't get around to putting that sign up. Whoops.

    Congrats, Italians!
The Italians win the World Cup in a shootout!

And even if I weren't watching the game, the sounds of car horns all over my relatively Italian town would have been a dead giveaway. It's insane!

    Happy Fourth!
Happy Fourth of July! I am proud that our state is celebrating by invoking their right to shut down the state!

(Though, seriously, Corzine has the right ideas, even if he is making really hard decisions)

    New Fridge
I am getting a new fridge today. My old old one was making noise, and the one they replaced it with (an older one) has some issues, so I am getting a brand new one.

    Kevin Millar
So last season, this guy Kevin Millar was playing for the Red Sox. He didn't have all that great of a season, and the Red Sox's manager, Terry Francona, did what any manager would do, he sat Millar. This offseason, Millar left the team for the Orioles.

The Orioles played in Minnesota, and the day after the Orioles left, the Red Sox came to town. Guess what Millar did?

Kevin Millar, who was in the Twin Cities with Baltimore over the weekend, left a gift for Francona in the visiting manager's office. The gift: a bag of dog poop. ``It said, `Here's to Francona,' " the skipper recounted. ``I opened it, reached in, I didn't realize what it was. I just called him back and said, `Any chance you had of ever coming back here just went right down the toilet with that bag.' "

    PetSmart: Whoops!
A kitten adopted at a PetSmart Inc. store was ill with rabies, prompting the pet-supplies chain to suspend animal adoptions in the mid-Atlantic.

    Um, whoops! LOL.

    Racial Makeup of my Town
Try this...go to Wikipedia and put in the name of the town you grew up in, and copy and paste the section on racial makeup (under demographic information) here. It's interesting to see.

Officially, I grew up in Hardyston Township.

The racial makeup of the township was 95.56% White, 0.84% African American, 0.16% Native American, 1.57% Asian, 0.49% from other races, and 1.38% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.22% of the population.

    My conference today...
I presented today at the conference at Bucks Community College in Newtown. My presentation was very well received! I had people who have been teaching for many years, people who are textbook authors, asking questions and telling me they plan on implementing my ideas!

I suppose the theme of the conference, which involved the imminent change in education from "teaching" to "learning" helped people to be more receptive, but I was still shocked at the turnout and the interest.

I also got an invite from someone to present at a conference they are putting on in October. She told me to email her directly, since she had already seen the presentation, and she would bypass the submission/review process. This one is at Montgomery County College, which is about the same distance for me.

It looks like this concept has some mileage!

    A new idea for me
I am putting this out there for my students. Any ideas would be appreciated. It's a collection of technology articles, books, movies, all sorts of things that is intended to get the students interested in technology and also show a human side of me.

ADD to blame for a ballplayer's mental mistakes?
Adam LaRoche is a player on the Atlanta Braves. Being a Mets fan, I can't be too big of a fan of him as it is. However, a story came to light about him that is odd. He has ADD, and it's affecting his play.

"On Sunday, after scooping up a routine grounder that should have been the third out of the inning, LaRoche took his time getting to first and was stunningly beaten to the bag by Washington's Nick Johnson, who was hustling all the way. The error allowed the Nationals to score four unearned runs on their way to an 8-1 victory, and led to LaRoche being benched for Monday night's game against Florida."
